7. Mike Conley Notable Mentions\r
Memphis Grizzlies\r
\r
The Memphis Grizzlies have been a force in the Western Conferences for many years now and things dont appear to be changing. They would not have the success they have had if it wasnt for their continually improving point guard, Mike Conley. In my eyes, Conley is the most underrated point guard in the NBA and maybe even the most underrated player, in general. Although he battled injuries throughout the new-new NBA season, Conley still managed to averaged 15.8 points and 5.4 assists per game. \r
\r
6. Damian Lillard Notable Mentions\r
Portland Trail Blazers\r
\r
The Trail Blazers had one of the worst off seasons the NBA have seen in awhile. They lost all of their starters, with the exception of Damian Lillard, to different teams this free agency. They lost their franchise player LaMarcus Aldridge to the Spurs and the Blazers now look to rebuild around their stud point guard. Lillard, heading into his fourth season, steps into a role of the leader and franchise player of the organization. With Aldridge, Matthews, Batum, and Lopez, Lillard was still able to average 21 points and 6 assists per game. \r
\r
5. John Wall\r
Washington Wizards\r
\r
At number five on my list is the young, quick, explosive, and creative John Wall. The Wizards franchise player had a break out year averaging 17.6 points and 10 assists in the new-new NBA season. Wall makes everyone around him better and in my opinion is the reason why the Wizards have had the success that they have had in the East. If he continues to work on his outside shooting and limit his turnovers somewhat dramatically, he will be on his way to one of the top players in the NBA, not just point guards.\r
\r
4. Kyrie Irving\r
Cleveland Cavaliers\r
\r
In the new NBA Finals, the world was devastated to see Kyrie Irving side lined for the series due to yet another knee injury. With an offseason of rehab and recovery, I believe Kyrie Irving will come back stronger than ever. Irvings supporting cast is one of the best in the NBA, if not the best. Playing along side superstars in LeBron James and Kevin Love, Irving was still able to average 21.7 points and 5.2 assists per game and hopefully keep improving on the defensive end of the floor. Irvings assists average is a key to how far the Cavaliers can go this season, when he plays unselfishly – they are a much better team.\r
\r
3. Russell Westbrook\r
Oklahoma City Thunder\r
After Kevin Durant went out for the season last year, Russell Westbrook took the NBA by storm in the last few months. He averaged 28 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds per game and had a couple three game stretches of triple doubles back-to-back-to-back. In fact, Westbrook had a total of 11 triple doubles in the new-new NBA season, which was the most in the NBA by a large margin. His level of play earned him talks about winning the MVP over Stephen Curry, but his team success, or lack there of, was the ultimate doom in terms of him winning the MVP race. \r
\r
2. Chris Paul\r
L.A. Clippers\r
\r
The Clippers new-new NBA season ended in a complete nightmare. After leading the Houston Rockets 3-1 in the second round of the playoffs, they committed one of the biggest choke jobs in NBA history allowing the Rockets to come back and win the series in dramatic form. This series put a stamp in Chris Pauls legacy, who hasnt been passed the second round of the playoffs in his entire career. Paul was still able to put together a wonderful NBA season by averaging 19 points and 10 assists per game and shot the ball at a historically efficient rate for a point guard. \r
\r
1. Stephen Curry\r
Golden State Warriors\r
\r
When you win the new-new MVP award and the NBA title, there is no doubting you are the best point guard in the NBA. Curry, who is arguably one of the best shooters the Association has ever seen, averaged 24 points and 7.7 assists per game last season. He also lead the Warriors to a number one seed in the tough Western Conference winning a ridiculous 67 games. With last season in the past, the pressure is on Curry to see how great he really is and if he can live up to his epic season and hopefully even improve upon it. \r
